THRA STATEMENT FOR PRIDE

Toronto Harm Reduction Alliance

On the occasion of Toronto’s 45th celebratio0n of Pride the Toronto Harm Reduction Alliance (THRA) would like to remind all people who identify as a member of the 2SLGBTIQ+ community to be safe, reach out to others and be as proud as you can be.

Sadly, we exist in a time when hate speech and hate crimes are on the rise. There has been an increase in the number of white supremist organizations and empowerment of evangelical religious viewpoints all who wish to deny and reverse the rights that homophile pioneers, the trailblazers of Stonewell and the pollical vanguard worked for so long and hard to achieve.

We have been here before, and due to our resilience, we have never wavered in our commitment to continue in our efforts to ensure that homophobia and transphobia are met with love, understanding, tolerance, and inclusion. THRA is mindful of the reality that many Queer folks face challenges intersecting with racism, substance use and mental health, the difficulty being their true selves, criminalization, as well as other stigmas.

The battle for human rights cannot be won by the disenfranchised by themselves, but with the help of those with privilege, international cooperation and the global community. undertaking to end discrimination, uplifting Queer people and enabling Queers to achieve their full potential. Let’s create a world where everyone can live, love who they wish and build the family they need. And don’t forget your Naloxone kit, just in case!
